The families Jankovsky and Vlastnik
The family Jankovsky is ancient Bohemia family. The family came to the US in the 1800's. John's brother Anton came
after the end of the Civil War with John coming in the late 1880's. The family established a Wood Working Business in late 1890's which they retained into the 1920's. At one time John owned a 12 unit apartment
building on Walton street - near the present day location of the John Hancock Building.
Charles' older brothers were Anton, John and Joseph - sisters were Anna and Mary. In 1926 Charles started work at
Western Elec, supervised the Lumber Mill and retired in 1946.
Joseph worked at Crane Company for 37 years, during WWII he rec'd exemption as a Tool & Die maker, retired from Crane at the age 61, was involved in local Gov't and he was formally cited in 1983 for 25 years service to the village.
The family Vlastnik came to the US in 1904 from Varnice in Bohemia. The family established a Tailoring Business in
Chicago which later evolved into Clothing Store in Peru, Illinois which the family maintained for several generations.
